This article attempts to map competitions and reviews addressed to visual communication designers. The first part names popular competitions, hierarchies them according to prestige in the design circles and categorises them regarding their target groups and types of designs they attract. The Under Scrutiny part describes competition processes, i.a. informs, what is important while submitting a design. It refers the selection criteria of awarded works, juxtaposed with curatorial approach of the organisers. The description is supported by designers’ opinions. The Promotion part applies these opinions to list the advantages of participating in competitions. Therapy elaborates on this subject, attempting to demonstrate potential benefits of competitions to the design circles in a broader context of promoting the entire profession and knowledge exchange, as well as introducing young designers to the market.
