5 On the border of data, creation and design decisions. Introduction to research and design workshops
The article presents the theoretical and methodological foundations connecting the work of designers, researchers, users and other entities. The proposed approach rests upon exceeding the traditionally perceived research as activity based on rigorous scientific procedures and separate from design processes, focused on quantitative data. Instead, the described solutions flexibly adjust to design processes and allow for including the user’s perspective at various stages – indirectly (researchers provide moderately processed data) or directly (participatory processes are moderated by researchers or designers). The authors present one of the manners of execution of such studies, namely: research and design workshops, which can be included at every stage of a design process following from objectives, needs and goals of a given enterprise.
