A few years back, the green playground in Racibórz was an abandoned place. It was neglected, two metal swings and overgrown asphalt pitch altogether, used only for walking dogs, and as a private spot.
It was, however, good timing for prosocial actions. In the 60-thousand city, there met a few people, who developed a conception of a dream green playground, and encouraged the Municipal Office to revitalise the area.
Despite the success of the project (i.e. the incessant crowd of families with children), the idea lacked the element of integration to show that the green area in Racibórz is more than a regular playground.
Performing the function of the urban architect back then, I initiated cyclical events to celebrate the beginning and the end of the vegetative season – in order to use the natural properties of this place. Interestingly, supported by a mere handful of people and zero budget, I managed to organise events that have been growing into the city fabric. Due to their innovative form, they are sometimes even called iconic.
The green playground in Racibórz is a small success story, which proved, that the best things come to being when the city is shaped by its residents, with all their diversity and energy.
